J. Greg Ness

J. Greg Ness

President and Chief Executive Officer
StanCorp Financial Group, Inc. and Standard Insurance Company

Greg Ness is president and chief executive officer of StanCorp Financial Group, Inc. and Standard Insurance Company. He previously served as president and chief operating officer from September 2008 until June 2009.

Ness joined Standard Insurance Company in 1979 and has held a succession of positions with increasing responsibilities, including senior vice president of the insurance services group, senior vice president of the employee benefits division, senior vice president of investments and president of StanCorp Mortgage Investors, LLC and StanCorp Investment Advisers, vice president and corporate secretary, and vice president of retirement plans sales and marketing.

He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington State University, has earned an M.B.A. from Portland State University and holds the Leadership Institute Fellow designation from the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA).

Ness serves on the board of directors of the Oregon Business Council and is immediate past chair of the board of Portland Center Stage and current chair of the Armory Theater Fund. He has also served on numerous community boards in the Portland area.


 

Floyd Chadee

Floyd Chadee was appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer of StanCorp Financial Group, Inc. and Standard Insurance Company in April 2008. He is responsible for corporate finance, corporate actuarial, tax, treasury and investor relations.

He formerly served as senior vice president and chief financial officer at Assurant Employee Benefits. Prior to that he was vice president and controller at Aetna Canada and an actuary at Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company.

A graduate of Stanford University, Chadee earned a Ph.D. in Operations Research and is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries.

 

 

 


 

Mike Winslow

StanCorp Financial Group, Inc., Standard Insurance Company

Mike Winslow is senior vice president and general counsel of StanCorp Financial Group, Inc. and its primary subsidiary Standard Insurance Company. He has oversight of Corporate Legal, Public Affairs and Corporate Communications as well as the company’s strategic planning process.

He formerly served as assistant general counsel and chief compliance officer for PacifiCorp. Prior to that he was assistant general counsel and assistant secretary for PacifiCorp Financial Services, Inc.

A graduate of Indiana University, Winslow earned his J.D. from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College. Winslow is a member of the American Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar Association.

He serves as a deputy member of the board of directors for Oregon Business Council and is a member of the Open Meadow Alternative Schools’ Sustainability Campaign Board and The Forest Park Conservancy Sixty for Sixty Campaign Committee.


 

David O’Brien

David M. O’Brien is the senior vice president of Information Technology. He is responsible for developing and leading the company’s information technology strategy to enable the company's business goals. His responsibilities include business systems development and maintenance, program and project management, enterprise architecture and infrastructure. O'Brien joined The Standard in May 2004 as vice president of Information Technology and in June 2006 was promoted to senior vice president.

Before joining The Standard, O'Brien served as chief information officer for FEI Company. Prior to that he worked for Credence Systems Corporation, where he held a succession of positions with increasing responsibilities, including senior vice president and chief information officer, senior vice president of marketing and senior vice president of engineering. He was a member of the team that helped Credence grow from $1 million to $600 million in revenue.

O'Brien is a graduate of Harvard University and holds a master's degree in applied physics from Stanford University. He volunteers with Boy Scouts of America and is a member of the Portland Opera board of directors.


 

Scott Hibbs

Standard Insurance Company

Scott Hibbs is the vice president of the Asset Management Group for Standard Insurance Company with responsibility for all asset management businesses including retirement plans, individual annuities, commercial mortgage, investment advisory services and real estate. Scott joined The Standard in 2000 as assistant vice president, Investor Relations and Financial Planning. He has held numerous senior positions in the Asset Management and Insurance Services segments of The Standard.

Before joining The Standard, Hibbs was director, Investor Relations & Financial Reporting, with Flir Systems, Inc. and director, Investor Relations, at PacifiCorp, both headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Hibbs was also a senior accountant at Deloitte.

He is a graduate of Oregon State University where he holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

Hibbs is member of the board of directors for Portland Habilitation Center and is active in a variety of youth sports organizations.


 

Karen Weisz

Karen Weisz

Vice President, Human Resources & Corporate Services
Standard Insurance Company

Karen Weisz is the vice president of Human Resources and Corporate Services for Standard Insurance Company. She joined The Standard in 2008.

Before joining The Standard she worked for Intel Corporation, most recently as the Human Resources Director of new and emerging Platform Business Groups. During more than 12 years at Intel, she held progressively senior management roles in Human Resources and Learning and Organizational Development, including overseeing Intel University. Prior to this Karen was a teacher with San Francisco public schools in both general and bilingual education.

She is a graduate of University of California at Santa Cruz where she holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology and literature. She earned a master of science degree in educational policy & administration from Portland State University.

Weisz serves on the board of directors of Special Olympics Oregon and is a founding member of the Portland Public Schools Special Education PTA. She is also active in a number of local organizations focused on promoting women's leadership and diversity.
